Great Fishing Charters
Capt. Tom Reutter
Great fishing this week of 02/07/20 both inshore and nearshore. Anglers that booked their fishing trip with me through CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key had good action inshore with trout (some really big ones), bluefish and all the ladyfish your arms can take in 3-5 ft of water. Also had one 30 inch redfish caught on a chunk of ladyfish near the edge of a mangrove in Sarasota Bay. Near Shore in 30 ft of water we caught numerous Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, some keeper Sheepshead, and a really nice sized Black Drum.
Fun fishing inshore with the Nymeyer family caught numerous Ladyfish and Trout. We saw water boiling in the ICW channel with huge Jack Crevalle. All 4 anglers hooked up large Jacks with lines going in all directions. We were using 1/8 oz jig heads with Mirrolure Lil Jon Tail.
Fishing nearshore with the Bob Dickey family catching a nice Black Drum, Sheepshead, and uncountable amounts of Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish. We went through 8 dz shrimp in 90 minutes. We then dropped our inshore rig with an 1/8 oz jig head and 3” lil jon tail down to the bottom (30 Ft) and caught bluefish every time. We moved inshore next and whacked Trout, Ladyfish, Jacks, and one Pompano.
I just heard this week that FWC is planning to extend the moratorium on Redfish, Snook, and Trout for another year. I know it may be frustrating for some, but I really believe it’s a good thing. The bay is recovering from the Red Tide of 2018 but the numbers of Snook and Redfish are nowhere close to where it used to be. There a plenty of other tasty fish to catch for dinner. And finally, if you are lucky enough to catch a big Red or Snook, please take a minute right now to learn a proper way to hold and release these beautiful fish so they can keep living and making more. See ya on the water.
