BREAKING: 74-YEAR-OLD SARASOTA CYCLIST DEAD AFTER COLLISION WITH SIESTA KEY TROLLEY

Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 74-year-old bicyclist identified as a Sarasota man was killed when he turned directly in front of a southbound Siesta Key Breeze Trolley. The incident occurred on Monday, Feb. 8 at 1:30 p.m. when the cyclist and the trolley approached the intersection of Midnight Pass Road and Stickney Point Road.  

FHP reported that the cyclist violated the trolley driver’s right-of-way when he turned directly in front of the vehicle.  The cyclist was thrown from his bicycle when the left corner of the trolley struck him.  

Sarasota County EMS pronounced the man dead on the scene and then transported the cyclist to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
